  • The metro line No. 1 project, also known as the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien route, runs from Ben Thanh Market in District 1 to the Long Binh Depot in Thu Duc City and is 19.7km long, including a 2.6km underground section and a 17.1km elevated railway.

Since 4 years, the space in front of Ben Thanh market and along Le Loi road, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City has been fenced off to build metro line No. 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien. Started in November 2016, the central station of Ben Thanh District 1 look like an underground small city, length of 747m to the Opera House station along Le Loi street to the ground.

Ben Thanh Central Station is designed with 4 basements. In which, the B1 basement  is about 53,600 m2 wide at a depth of 12m is the toll hall of the station and the commercial center, the B2 basement is about 13,000 m2 wide, including the platform for Line 1 and Line 3a, where trains stop and park to pick up and drop off passengers; In addition, there is also a platform control office, fire protection equipment room and water supply pump, suction and ventilation equipment room... now clearly formed after basic completion , B3 basement is the court room, air management, power supply room, staff room and the 4th line platform (in the future), the B4 basement is about 2,500m2 wide at a depth of 32m  is the future metro line 2 platform.

Up to now, Package 1a of metro line No. 1 in Ho Chi Minh City including Ben Thanh station has completed 94% of the work volume, is currently constructing electrical items, completing... about to be put into operation.

According to Mr. Nguyen The Trinh, engineer of Cienco 4, despite the time to implement the distance because of the COVID-19 epidemic, the workload in the 1a metro package 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien still completed in time.

This is the most complicated project because in addition to serving passengers metro line 1, Ben Thanh central station is also a transit point, connecting other metro lines such as metro line 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong), route metro line 3A (Ben Thanh - Tan Kien) and metro line 4 (Thanh Xuan - Hiep Phuoc urban area).

Metro line 1 is 19.7km long with 3 underground stations and 11 elevated stations, so far has reached more than 86% of the total work volume of the project. Currently, 11/17 trains have been transferred to Vietnam. Continuously bringing the trains home to energize at the Binh Thai 110kV substation is an important preparatory step for the phased test run.

It is expected that metro No. 1 will be put into commercial operation in 2022, but due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the project will be delayed until the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024. Currently, contractors are focusing on construction and installation of rails, electromechanical systems, signal information... from there installing equipment, completing stations, speeding up the work progress.
